WHAT TO LOOK
FOR IN 2O22
Since markets collapsed in March 2020 as the world started to grasp the severity
of Covid, equities have largely been climbing ever since. This long spell of strong
performance has led many commentators to ask whether we could be on the cusp of
another ‘Roaring Twenties’ to mirror the decade after the end of the First World War
and Spanish flu outbreak.
As always with this kind of narrative, there are as many

stock markets, technological revolution, and growing political
polarisation and international rivalry does present an intriguing
parallel. Shorter term, however, we have seen a lengthening
list of concerns in recent months, from the collapse of Chinese

property giant Evergrande, through rising inflation forcing
central banks to move sooner than expected towards policy
tightening, to the Omicron variant.
As we enter the third year of the decade, we look at some of the
key things to watch in 2022.
